What are the three most important features to look at when comparing digital cameras? They may not be as obvious as you think. Believe it or not, the number of megapixels is not one of them.

It’s a hard question for many consumers to answer, when you’ve never priced digital cameras before.  Digital camera prices vary widely, depending primarily on quality and functionality.

At one time megapixels would have made the top three, probably even the number one factor. Due to the rapid advance of digital photography, that time has come and past.

For under $200 there are some pretty nice digital cameras that would suit the purposes of the average photographer. Someone in this category is looking to have a good camera to take on vacation, to the cousins wedding, and to catch junior blowing out the birthday candles.

The person taking the picture is still the single biggest determining factor as to how good the final image will be.

This class of camera take some pretty good images, but are easy to take along just about anywhere, and even easier to use. They have minimal camera settings to fiddle with, and don’t mind sharing the bottom of your backpack with whatever paraphernalia you have stashed there. There is an abundance of choice with digital cameras these days, and generally that’s good. I’d say any of the top ten rated cameras in your price budget will keep you happy.

If your looking in the over $1000 price category, then to be quite honest you don’t need my help. The best digital camera prices for these cameras is really less of an issue. Anyone looking to spend this much money for a camera should let their own personal preferences be their guide. Camera functionality and image quality are far more important at this point.
